Pastoral Care for the Persecuted
The worst forms of persecution occur in countries where Christians have the least resources.
Christians in these countries can and frequently do experience constant surveillance, daily risk of interrogation and imprisonment, seized property, and alienation from their community. Their families can lose access to education, housing, government resources, and financial assistance.
How Luke Alliance Helps
In these situations, Luke Alliance creates networks of local caregivers that allow persecuted Christians to rest, heal, and ultimately thrive again as followers of Jesus.
These networks consist of mental health care providers, legal experts, and spiritual caregivers and are carefully contextualized to the country. Counseling, legal help, and spiritual care need to be provided in the primary language of the persecuted person, taking into account cultural realities.
This work can carry significant risk for the care providers and the persecuted person. When necessary, retreats, training, and other activities are held in nearby countries where the threat of persecution is less pervasive.
Luke Alliance is forming care networks in China, Myanmar, India, and Laos. These efforts are time and resource-intensive but are urgently needed. Your financial partnership enables Luke Alliance to accelerate development and bring relief to Christians in need.
Care in Action
Counseling Curriculum Development – Luke Alliance is developing a trauma-informed, gospel-centered counseling curriculum to equip local therapists to care for persecuted Christians. Designed for the cultural context in which it will be used, the curriculum strengthens caregivers to provide compassionate, biblically grounded care for those affected by persecution.
Pastoral Training Retreats – In partnership with trusted local ministries, Luke Alliance hosts retreats that equip pastors to shepherd congregations facing persecution. Through biblical teaching, practical training, and opportunities for rest and encouragement, church leaders are strengthened for faithful, long-term ministry.
Trauma Healing Workshops – Multi-day workshops train pastors and Christian leaders to recognize, process, and respond to trauma resulting from violence and persecution. Participants are equipped to foster healing within their churches and extend compassionate care to others facing similar hardship.
Pastoral Care Teams – Luke Alliance equips pastoral teams to visit persecuted Christians and their families, providing spiritual encouragement, relational care, and practical support. These visits remind suffering believers they are not alone and help restore them to continued life and ministry.
Care for Asylum Seekers – Christians who have fled persecution and are seeking asylum in the United States receive spiritual, emotional, and practical care through trusted churches and local caregivers. Luke Alliance helps connect individuals and families with the relationships and resources they need to heal, rebuild, and thrive again as followers of Jesus.
