Letter from Jing Zhan (sister of Ge Zhan)

Peace to you, dear family in Christ,

This is Jing Zhan, the younger sister of Ge Zhan.

On the evening of October 10, around 6:00 p.m., my sister was on her way from my home to the hospital to take care of me when police ambushed and took her away. Later, officers from the Beihai Public Security Bureau arrived to join them. They demanded that my sister open my door so they could search my home. When she refused, they threatened to break in by force.

Upon hearing the news, my mother rushed home as quickly as she could, only to watch helplessly as they put handcuffs on my sister. Afterwards, the police went to my sister’s house and conducted a large-scale search, before taking her to Beihai.

For more than a month and a half, police had repeatedly come to my home to harass and intimidate me. The constant pressure severely disrupted my daily life. Because of the stress and my weak immune system, on October 2 I suffered a sudden cerebral hemorrhage and thrombosis, which led to seizures and other complications. I was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment.

As soon as my sister heard the news, she immediately traveled overnight to be with me. She stayed in the hospital every night, caring for me and keeping watch through the long hours.

During this time, I have received much love and care from many brothers and sisters in Christ. Because of your prayers, encouragement, and love, I have been able to recover and heal. Yet just as I began to regain strength, I started hearing—one after another—the heartbreaking news that several of our church family members had gone missing. This has left me feeling powerless and deeply grieved.

My mother, meanwhile, has been overwhelmed by both my illness and my sister’s arrest, leaving her physically and emotionally exhausted.

My sister is the family member whom the Lord Himself chose for my mother and me—no one can question or diminish this bond of love. We now cry out for justice on this earth and pray that the Lord will make a way for all who are being persecuted.

Prayer Requests

  1. Please pray for my sister Ge Shan, who suffers from severe depression—that the Lord will protect her physical and emotional health.

  2. Pray that my mother and I will be safely and smoothly discharged from the hospital, and that our upcoming move will lead us to a secure and peaceful place to handle what follows.

  3. Pray that the Lord will grant us wisdom and discernment as we deal with necessary paperwork and other follow-up procedures.

  4. Pray for the lawyers who are stepping forward to defend the persecuted—for their safety and strength on the road ahead. This lawsuit is a battle; may the Lord protect these warriors who take up arms for their faith.
