Gao Quanfu, Pang Yu, and Light of Zion Church

Pastor Gao Quanfu and his wife, Pang Yu, are devoted Christians from Xi’an, China. They have led Light of Zion Church - a nationally recognized and influential house-church in China - for years. Gao Quanfu became one of the most respected spiritual leaders in the Chinese Christian community for his integrity, compassion, and steadfast belief in peaceful worship.

On May 17, 2025, Pastor Gao Quanfu was arrested from his family home at No. 19 Changsheng Street, Beilin District, Xi’an. Authorities accused him of “using superstition to undermine law enforcement” and “fraud.” These accusations are false and politically motivated, serving as a pretext to silence his faith-based leadership and ministry.

On June 7, 2025, his wife, Pang Yu, was also taken from the same home and detained under the same accusations as an “accomplice.” Since their arrests, the Gao family has been denied fair and transparent due process, and access to both of them has been tightly restricted.

The persecution of Pastor Gao Quanfu and Pang Yu is part of the Chinese Communist Party’s long-standing campaign to control and suppress all religious activity that operates outside of its official, state-sanctioned framework. As early as 2008, local police began visiting their home to “talk” with Gao Quanfu, warning him to stop leading worship gatherings. Over the years, government officials repeatedly threatened and intimidated the Gao’s several times each year, demanding that the church register under Party oversight.

Despite these pressures, Gao Quanfu and Pang Yu have remained faithful and peaceful in their service. They have never promoted violence or disobedience. On the contrary, Gao Quanfu has consistently prayed for the peace, safety, and prosperity of both Xi’an and China.

The government’s conduct demonstrates that anyone who refuses to conform to its ideological control is at constant risk of persecution.
